Hiking usually just takes a day. Campers go up the trail in the morning and come back to camp later in the day. Here are some of the kinds of food hikers for a day should bring along with them:

Going on a hike is also tiring and may result in hunger and thirst among the hikers. A good camper and hiker is always prepared. Bring food and liquids.

But what kind of food should you bring?

Here is a list of food which you can bring when hiking:

  • Water: This is the most essential thing to bring. Hiking under the heat of the sun surely makes you lose your body fluids. To replenish your body fluids, make sure you bring and drink enough water to keep you hydrated during the hike.
  • Nuts: Mixed nuts and food bars with nuts are good. These are energy boosters, so nuts will help you finish the trail and enable you to have enough energy to go down back to camp.
  • Frozen or dried fruits and vegetables: These will give you sustenance and stamina along the trail.
  • Ready-cooked rice pouches: Ready-cooked rice pouches are considered to be a complete meal. It has cooked rice and either vegetable, poultry, or meat, depending on the rice combination you choose. Hikers rest along the trail and rest. This is when they have a good meal and a nap before proceeding on the trail.
  • Energy bars: As the name suggests, energy bars give you the energy to make you last throughout the hike.

The Most Important Meal of the Day

Even when you are on a hiking trip, breakfast is considered to be the most important meal of the day. What you eat for breakfast fuels your body so you can function at your best throughout the day.

It is very important that you prepare a proper breakfast for your fellow hikers.

Bread, cold cuts (bacon, ham, and others), eggs, and a fruit or two can give you and your fellow campers enough energy to tackle the activities that lie ahead.

  • Omelets and toast – you can prepare this on your last breakfast in camp. Leftover meat and other food can be made into an omelet. This way, no food will go to waste.
  • Sandwiches – commonly, sandwiches are prepared at home, before you leave for the camping trip. Keep it in the freezer overnight. You can store it in the food cooler at camp then just heat it for breakfast.
  • Oats and cereals – this is the traditional, most common breakfast – traditional. And nutritious but easy to prepare, too.
  • Pancakes – there are pancake mixes which only instruct you to “just add water. Pancakes are delicious, especially if you jazz them up with fruits and honey or maple syrup.
  • Biscuits or crackers and jelly (or jam) – this is also an easy breakfast to prepare. Aside from jellies or jams, you can also pair your crackers and biscuits with cheese or cheese spreads.
  • Fresh fruits, cereals, and milk – Fresh fruits may mean berries, apples, bananas, oranges. Mix it with cereals or granola in a bowl and add milk. Voila! Breakfast is ready!
